Amalie Grote john, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Grotejohn, was born March 16, 1866, at Platteville, Wis. She spent her early girlhood in this vicinity, where on April 4, 1886, she was united in marriage with Henry Karl Lemke, of Paris, Iowa. After their marriage they lived on various farms near Hull, Ellsworth, Minn., and Steen, Minn., before settling in Lyon county in 1890. They have lived around and in Rock Rapids since that time.

Following the death of Mr. Lemke, May 4, 1925, Mrs. Lemke and daughter Mattie, have continued to make their home on Tama street. Mrs. Lemke is survived by all her children, George Lemke, Mrs. Henry Claussen, and Miss Mattie Lemke, of Rock Rapids, and Mrs. Ernest Wibbens of Big Stone City, S.D. She is survived also by a sister, Mrs. Harry Hollenbeck, of Lester, and six brothers, Henry Grotejohn, of Morris, Minn., John Grotejohn, of Platteville, Wis., William Grotejohn, of Reading, Minn., Gust Grotejohn, of Gary, SD., Frank Grotejohn, of Sioux Falls, SD., and Harry Grotejohn, of Flandreau, SD. and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, at 2 o'clock, at the Immanuel Lutheran church, and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. E.H. Mueller, who spoke both in the German and English language. A quartet, composed of Miss Ella Borman, Miss Josephine Winter, Richard Eder and Carl Borman, sang two appropriate anthems. Internment was in Riverview cemetery. Pallbearers were: Fred Wohlers, Fred Kenna, Geo. Smith, Henry Jansen, John Nagle and Dan McGraw.

Mrs. Lemke was a kind hearted woman, always ready to lend a hand, where she could be of service. She was of a sunny disposition and will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends.
