Karen Stueven, age 66 of George, IA, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in George, IA. Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 19th at St. John Lutheran Church of rural Boyden with burial in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Boyden.

Karen Kae Stueven was born April 26, 1943 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of William C. and Hendrika (Scholten) Reyelts. She was baptized on May 30, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, near Hull, IA. Karen attended country school at Hull and later graduated from Boyden-Hull High School in 1962. After graduation she worked as a housekeeper. On October 2, 1964, she was united in marriage to Kenneth F. Stueven at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull, IA. They made their home on Kenneth’s family farm south of George. She and Kenneth worked the land and started their family. Karen was a caring wife and mother. Her family was very dear to her and she kept very busy with raising her family and tending to her home. She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, baking and visits from family and friends. When ever you saw Karen, she always had a smile on her face. Her deep devotion and strong faith followed in everything she did. In June of 2008, she was diagnosed with Lewy Body Disease and in October of 2008, Karen became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Society, where she died this past Monday afternoon, November 16, 2009, at the age of sixty-six.

Karen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth Stueven of George, IA; their four children, Arlys and her husband, Todd Hilbrands of Rock Rapids, IA, Duane Stueven of Ellsworth, MN, David Stueven of George, IA and Daren Stueven of Hull, IA; her father, William Reyelts of Hull, IA; four sisters, Donna and her husband, Joe Gingras of Rock Rapids, IA, Glenda and her husband, Charlie Bryson of Schleswig, IA, Lola Hindbjorgen of Hendricks, MN and Marcia and her husband, Dennis Orcutt of Columbia City, IN; one brother, Loren Reyelts and his wife, Mary Ellen of Hull, IA.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Hendrika; son, Darrel; and brother-in-law, Paul Hindbjorgen.
