John B. Stubbe, 88, long-time resident of Lyon county died Tuesday, January 4, at the home of his son, Ben Stubbe, of George, with whom he had made his home the past six years.
Due to a fall, he sustained leg injuries from which he never fully recovered, but got around on crutches. In spite of much pain, he remained cheerful and content.
Mr. Stubbe was born in 1860 in Nieuwbeerta, Netherlands. In 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Trintje Sprock. They came to America in 1893 and settled in George vicinity, where he was engaged in farming until 1924, when they moved to George, where he has since resided.
Mr. Stubbe was preceded in death by his devoted wife; two daughters, Mrs. George A. Kruger and Mrs. Harm Krull; and a son, Berand, who died in 1893.
He leaves to mourn his departure three daughters, Grace, Mrs. Peter Huisman of Adrian, Minn.; Dena, Mrs. Louie Peters; and Bertha, Mrs. John Schneiderman of George; two sons, Ben and Charley of George, 40 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. One grand-daughter, Kathryn Kruger, made her home with her grandfather all of her life.
Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 8, from the Ben Stubbe home at 1:00 o'clock and from the Hope Reformed church, southwest of George. Rev. Martin Hoekman was officiating pastor.
A quartet composed of Heine Jansen, Henry Korthals, Ruth Beek and Bonnie Stubbe sang "O! That will be Glory" "No Night There" and "Sweetly Resting," accompanied by Betty Krull, pianist. The following grandsons acted as pallbearers: John Huisman, John Peters, John Schneiderman, John Kruger, John Krull and Donald John Stubbe. Interment took place in Hope Reformed Church cemetery.
