Lucille Mildred (BUSCH) HUISMAN was born December 14,1922 in Rock Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Charlie and Helen (DeHaan) Busch. Lucille grew up in Rock Rapids, where she attended school. On December 10, 1941 she was united in marriage to Ernest Huisman at Rushmore, Minnesota. Following their marriage, Lucille and Ernest began farming south of Rock Rapids. Like many farm wives Lucille raised their six children, maintained her family's home, and helped with the outside chores. On November 27, 1960, Ernest, Lucille's husband of eighteen years died unexpectedly. After Ernest's death, Lucille took on the responsibility of raising her children without their father and rented out their farm land to support them. After Lucille had her children raised she later moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She donated much of her time as a volunteer at Sioux Valley Hospital, working in the gift shop and delivering mail to patients. She also was a member of the RSVP Program at the Bergman Senior Citizens Center in Sioux Falls. In her spare time, Lucille enjoyed playing cards and bowling, and loved to go fishing. After Lucille's health began to fail she became a resident of the Rock Rapids Health Centre in November of 1994. This last Sunday afternoon, June 18, 1995 she died there at the age of seventy-two.

Surviving are her five children, Leo Huisman of Minneapolis, MN; Charlene Leveille and her husband, Kenneth of Chancellor, SD; Linda Portch and her husband, Michael of Las Vegas, NV;Charlotte Huisman of Glendale, AZ; and Lawrence Huisman and his wife, Esther of Driftwood,TX. Lucille is also survived by her twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Helen Hassebroek and her husband, Alvin of Little Rock, IA and Florence Klosterboer and her husband, Henry of Rock Rapids, IA.

Lucille was preceded in death by her huband, Ernest; her son, Charles; a grandson, Charles Hickman; and her parents.
