John P. Groth Is Taken By Death

John Peter Groth, a resident of this vicinity the greater part of his life died at his home near Alvord at three o'clock Saturday morning, June 24, at the age of fifty-four years, ten months and twenty-eight days. Mr. Groth, who was well known in Rock Valley and vicinity and who was highly respected by all who knew him began to fail in health last fall, suffering from heart trouble. Everything possible was done for his relief, but he continued to fail gradually until the final summons came.

John Groth, son of Claus and Marie Groth, was born July 26, 1884 in Poweshiek county, Iowa. When he was ten years old, he came with his parents to Lyon county and he grew to manhood on the Groth farm near Alvord.

In 1904 he was united in marriage with Louise Schemmel, of Inwood, who died four months later. He was married again in 1917 on February 7, to Minnie Kock of Hudson, who survives him. After their marriage they resided a year in Alvord and then moved onto a farm near that place where they spent six years, moving from there unto a farm near Hudson where they lived ten years. Six years ago they moved to the old home place known as the Claus Groth farm.

Mr. Groth leaves his widow, his aged mother, Mrs. Claus Groth of Sioux Falls, two brothers, Ed of Long Dale, Calif and Willie who is at home with his mother; one sister, Alma, Mrs. Henry Lauter, of Fulda, Minn.; three uncles John Groth of Sioux Falls; Carston Groth of Ogema, Minn; Adolph Kruse of Sioux City; and many other relatives and a host of friends. His father preceded him in death eleven yeas ago, and one brother, Adolph, died three years ago.

Funeral services were held in the home at two o'clock on Tuesday, and the remains were buried in he Alvord cemetery.
