SPIEKER, HAYENGA, SCHROEDER

Funeral services were held on Tuesday of this week for Mrs. Minnie Spieker, 73, who passed away on Saturday of last week, after a long illness. Her death followed the death of her husband which occurred a week ago. Rev. I.H. Hayenga officiated at the services.

Mrs. Margaret Schroeder Spieker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schroeder was born in Grundy County, Iowa, April 4, 1878.At the age of ten she went with her parents to Avon, South Dakota, where she grew into womanhood. She attended the Avon High School, Dakota Weslyan College at Mitchell, South Dakota, and during the summer months she attended teachers Institute at Tindall, South Dakota.

On September 23, 1905, she was married to Mr. John Spieker. For a number of years they lived on a farm near Avon: then they moved to their present home near George, Iowa. In her early teens she joined the Avon Baptist Church on confession of faith, retaining her membership in this church.

She was a member of the Zoar Loyal Woman’s Circle and gave of her time and loyalty to this group as long as she was able. Mrs. Spieker was in failing health for a number of years. She was confined to her home much of her latter years. She passed away at the Sibley hospital, December 1, 1951, having reached the age of 73 years and 7 months.

There were ten brothers and sisters of which three survive: Rev. John Schroeder, Omaha, Nebraska; Mr. Peter Schroeder, St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. Jesse Van Gerpen, Windom, Minnesota; one son Henry of George, Iowa, and a large number of relatives and friends.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Doyen and family of Windom, Minnesota; Mrs. George Ackerman of Salem, South Dakota; Mrs. Henry Kruger of Slayton, Minnesota; Mrs. Chris Geerdes and son of Kimbral, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jurrens, Ralph Schroeder, and Bernard Brandt of Avon, South Dakota; Ralph Van Gerpen and Ruth Van Gerpen of Windom, Minnesota; Mrs. Dean Hagoman of Bingham Lake, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Grover of Sanborn, Iowa; Rev. John Schroeder of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Minnie Kruse and family and Mrs. Mary Block all of Little Rock, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Anderson of Humboldt, South Dakota; Mrs. C.J. Stoneall and Audrey and Mrs. Russell Briggs of Sioux Falls, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Don Goembel and son of Luverne, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. George Hisken and Janice of Pipestone, Minnesota; Mrs. Ben Hisken of Ellsworth, Minnesota; and Mrs. Mary Grover of Matlock, Iowa.
