(German Obituary-translated)
To all friends and manned we communicate this message, that our beloved mother and grandmother; Jantje Gronewold, nee Behrens, is called upon from time into eternity. It was on 24 May 1864 in Boen, East Friesland, where she was born and where she spent their youth. In the 18th year of life, along with a sister, she came to America, where she first lived in Aplington, Iowa. There on 3 July, 1884 she joined with Heye Gronewold in matrimony. The first years of her married life she spent in Hardin Co., Iowa, and then in 1888 they came to Lyon Co., where she settled in the vicinity of George, Iowa. Their marriage produced 6 sons and 5 daughters, of whom one son died at birth. December 15, 1906 saw the death of her husband. She and her children took over the farming operation and for 14 years she has managed the household and farm.

In the year 1920 she finalized her retirement and settled in the town of George, where she has lived up to her life’s end. Her illness was short lived and difficult. She fell ill with a stomach ailment on 18 August and on the morning of 19 August, 1936, her life ended. She achieved the age of 72 years, 4 months and 5 days. She is mourned by 3 sons, 5 daughters, 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, also by 2 sisters and other relatives.

In addition to these, her husband and two adult sons preceded her in death. She was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian congregation. To all the mourners, we wish the consolation from above.

This notice is brought to you on behalf of children:
R. E. Niebrügge, Pastor.
