Mr. Rudolf Fick, age 86, of Hull, entered eternal rest on Monday, October 12, 2009, at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids. A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 15, at 1:30pm, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull. Interment followed at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in rural Boyden.

Rudolf John Henry was born on August 13, 1923, at Boyden, the son of John and Marie (Bahlke) Fick. He was baptized on August 14, 1923, and confirmed into the Christian faith on March 21, 1937, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at Boyden. He attended St. John School through the eighth grade.

On February 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Erma Breuer at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm near Boyden until 1955, when they moved to a farm at Rock Rapids. In 1963, they purchased a farm northwest of Hull, where they lived until 1985, when they retired into Hull.

The Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice enabled Rudy to remain at home until just last month, when he became a resident of the Health Centre.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served many terms on the council. He enjoyed wood working and keeping things tidy, especially mowing lawns. Mr. and Mrs. Fick liked to travel and visited Australia twice, as well as Germany, Canada, and many of the United States. They often got together with their relatives, and Rudy was very proud of his extended family.

Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years; four sons and their wives, Earl and Ethel Fick, of Hull; Ruben and Jean Fick, of Rock Rapids; Dr. Orlin and Amy Fick, of Shenandoah; and Dale and Diane Fick, of Doon; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Denise and Mike Horkey, Dawn and Matt De Witt, Dorinda and Brian Oostenink, Ryan and Amber Fick, Kristin Fick, Megan Fick, Robert Fick, Andrew Fick, Jonathan Fick, Bruce Fick, Brooke Fick, and Dana Fick; ten great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Anna and Jurgen Oeding, of Luverne, Minnesota; a brother and his wife, Alfred and Elsie Fick, of Boyden; and two brothers-in-law, Walter Oeding, of Luverne; and Pastor Paul Albers, of Australia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Ferdinand Fick; and three sisters, an infant, Larine Oeding, and Erna Albers.
