Mrs. Shirley Moss, age 80, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009, at the Skyridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado. Funeral Serivices were held on Saturday, September 19, at 10:30am, at the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg. Interment followed at the Capel Township Cemetery, near Middleburg.

Shirley Jean was born on July 9, 1929, at Boyden, the daughter of Chris H. and Ida Pauline (Walp) Blumeyer. She was raised on a farm near Matlock and graduated from the Boyden High School.
On January 19, 1949, she married Clifford Theodore Moss at the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church near George. They made their home at Middleburg, where they farmed and raised their family. In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed in the café of the Tri-State Livestock Auction Company in Sioux Center and in the kitchen of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In 1988, they semi-retired into Orange City. Cliff passed away on May 17, 2005, in Orange City, after more than 56 years of marriage.

Mrs. Moss was a member of the Free Grace Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's activities. She also belonged to the Farm Bureau Homemakers.

She enjoyed quilting, reading, doing crafts, playing card games, gardening, traveling, socializing, and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Carl and Nancy Moss, of Middleburg (Boyden); Virginia and John De Groot, of Boyden; Marvella and Daryl Van Wyhe, of Hull; Susan and Ken Hup, of Luverne, Minnesota; and David and Karen Moss, of Middleburg (Orange City); sixteen grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie and Eric Thunstedt, Dr. Sherri and David Ver Hoef, Curtis and Sunny Moss, Greg and Chelle De Groot, Scott De Groot, Dawn De Groot, Michelle and Tim Juffer, Kim and Jeremy Cantalamessa, Leah and Matt Vande Vegte, Shawna Van Wyhe, Mitch Hup, Breanne Hup, Matthew Hup, Dan and Jocelyn Moss, Shannon Moss, and Erin Moss; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two brothers and their wives, John and Carolyn Blumeyer, of Hastings, Minnesota; and Verdean and Lorna Blumeyer, of Sheldon.

She is also survived by Cliff's family, a sister, Mildred Maasland, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; a brother and his wife, Ernest and Ruth Moss, of Hull; a sister-in-law, Mary Moss, of Orange City; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Leonard and Alida Topp, of Hamilton, Michigan; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Virginia Beth; a brother, Donald Blumeyer (Father Robert); two sisters-in-law, Darlene Blumeyer and Audrey Topp; and two brothers-in-law, Marinus Maasland and Harold Moss.
