Rock Rapids, Iowa - Robert “Bob” Andersen, age 71, of Rock Rapids, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 suddenly at his home in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, burial in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, Minnesota, with military honor by the Rex Strait American Legion Post No. 103 and the the Van Anne-Fields V.F.W. Post No. 6960 of Rock Rapids.

Robert Orrie Andersen was born on March 5, 1938 in Jackson, Minnesota, the son of Orrie J. and Lyda I. (Mix) Andersen. He grew up in Worthington and received his education there. On January 28, 1972, he was united in marriage to Donna Hager in Sibley, Iowa. Bob was most recently employed at Sunshine Foods as a meat cutter. He held various other jobs through the years such as, Jensen’s Foods, Rice’s SuperValu, Armour’s, Schafer Grocery and owned and operated B & D Café in Bigelow, MN and later Our Place Café in Round Lake, MN with his wife Donna and daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Joe Thiner.

He was a life time member of the American Legion and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years. Bob enjoyed collecting things such as toy cars and trucks and shopping for bargains where ever he could find them. He also liked to call the numbers on Bingo night. Bob loved spending time with his family. His pets were also very important to him.

He is survived by his daughter, Pam Thiner of Steen, Minnesota; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys (Kenneth) Roberts of Worthington, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Joan Andersen of El Cajon, Calif. and special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orrie and Lyda Andersen; wife, Donna Andersen; one sister, Carol Nahhas; one brother, William Andersen; and a great-granddaughter, Jeanette Kramer.
