Verdean Ubbinga, 80, of George died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Rock Rapids Health Centre.

Services were Thursday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, George, with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Ubbinga was born March 21, 1921, at Rock Rapids, the son of Abbo and Myrtle (Schmidt) Ubbinga. He grew up near Rock Rapids, attended country school and graduated from George High School.

On May 6, 1941, he married Arlene Peters at Little Rock. They farmed near Ashton then moved to a farm near Rock Rapids where they farmed until retiring and moving into George.

His wife died June 6, 1996. He became a resident of Rock Rapids Health Centre Nov. 27, 2001.

He served on the George Elevator Board and was a member of Farm Bureau.

Survivors include one son, Arlen of Mounds View, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Sharon) Schilling of Ellsworth, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Myrtle May Duin of George.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three sisters, LaVonne Dietz, Leone Sprock and Evelyn Kruse.
