Beverly Kaster, 71, of Rock Rapids died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at her home following an extended illness.

Services were Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Beverly Wyland was born July 1, 1931, at Edna, the daughter of Herb and Ann (Weers) Wyland. She grew up and attended schools near Edna, graduating from high school in Rock Rapids in 1949. She worked in the telephone office in Rock Rapids.

On July 4, 1951, she married Arthur Kaster. They farmed near Rock Rapids. In 1976 she began operating a resort on Big Pelican Lake near Brainerd, Minn. In 1990, the couple moved to Rock Rapids but continued operating the resort until 1994. In 1992, she began working as a dispatcher in the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and later became a jailer. She retired in January 2002.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Mark, stationed at NATO headquarters in Belgium; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Kathleen) Wallenburg of Rock Rapids; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Murnice, and three sons in infancy.
