Obituary: Inwood - Viola Childress, 94, of Inwood, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Fellowship Village at Inwood. Funeral Service was Monday, June 29 at Christ Lutheran Church, Alvord with burial at Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Viola Schlumbohm was born November 9, 1914 in Hawarden, Iowa to Herman and Marie (Moeller) Schlumbohm. She attended school in Alvord, Iowa. Viola was united in marriage to Wallace Childress on February 19, 1936 at Christ Lutheran Church, Alvord. Together they farmed in the Larchwood, Iowa area for one year and moved to Alvord area where they farmed until retiring in 1977. In 1983 they moved to Inwood, Iowa. Viola was an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church ELCA and belonged to Quilts for Mission Group and was a member of the Golden Age Club of Alvord. She enjoyed taking pictures and putting together photo albums and scrapbooks, which she thoroughly enjoyed looking at many times.

Viola enjoyed crocheting afghans, tending to her big garden on the farm, taking trips with Wally and Sunday night drives to look at the crops and perhaps stopping for ice cream. Wally died February 19, 1990. Viola moved to Fellowship Village in October, 2001.

Viola is survived by her son Wayne (Judy) Childress of Ireton, Iowa; daughter Sharon (Ray) Ehrman of Freeman, So. Dak.; six grandchildren: Doug (Jo) Childress of Canton, So. Dak., Cathy Childress, Justin (Lisa) Ehrman all of Sioux Falls, Curtis Childress of Denver, Colorado, Stacey Childress of Tea, So. Dak., Lisa Ehrman of Littleton, CO; three step-grandchildren: Shane (Dawn) Christensen of Sioux Falls, Laurie Graves of Sioux City, Iowa, Jean (Tom) Riley of Hudson, So. Dak.; five great-grandchildren: Kayla Childress of Omaha, Neb., Katie, Allison, Jenna and Michael Ehrman all of Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; three step-great-grandchildren: Chance Riley, Connor and Ava Christensen; brother, Wallace Schlumbohm of Burrton, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wally; a granddaughter, Connie Childress; two brothers: Harold and Richard Schlumbohm; three sisters: Evelyn Schlotfeldt, Fern Nelson and Betty Pedersen.
