Mr. Henry Sneller, age 77, of rural Doon, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009, at his farm home, from complications due to a lifelong struggle with asthma.
There was a funeral service on Thursday, June 11, at 1:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. Interment followed at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.
Henry was born on June 11, 1931, at Doon, in the same room of the house where he died. He was the son of Egbert H. “Edd” and Luwina (Cleveringa) Sneller. He was raised on that same farm, which is nine miles north of Hull, and he attended country school.
On February 27, 1953, he married Marie Elizabeth Scholten at the First Reformed Church in Hull. They farmed across the section from his parents' farm for eighteen years and then returned to the home place. Marie passed away on January 23, 1997, in Sioux City.
Mr. Sneller was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he taught Sunday school classes and belonged to the Men's Brotherhood. He also participated in Friendship Bible studies.
He enjoyed farming, especially winrowing and chopping silage, socializing, playing games, and helping his grandchildren. Everyone knew when he was around; “you did not need a radio” to keep you company.

Survivors include his daughter, Lavonne De Jong, of Port Orchard, Washington; three sons, Eldon Sneller, and his wife, Lori; Arwin Sneller; and Leon Sneller, all of Doon; four grandsons, Brad Sneller, of Rock Rapids; Chad Sneller, of Doon; and Scott De Jong and Steven De Jong, both of Port Orchard; four brothers and their wives, William “Bill” and Adriana Sneller, of Luverne, Minnesota; Louis and Shirley Sneller, of Doon; Bernard “Bernie” and Glenda Sneller, of Delhart, Texas; and Elmer and June Sneller, of Sergeant Bluff; two uncles, Raymond and William “Bill” Sneller; an aunt, Cynthia Cleveringa; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Willard “Will” De Jong.
