George A. Jansen age 94 of George, Iowa died Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in George. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Hope Reformed Church at George, IA with burial in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George.

George A. Jansen was born May 15, 1914 on the farm of Arend and Minnie (Heidebrink) Jansen. He attended country school ¾ mile south of the farm and graduated from George High School in 1933. After his education, he farmed with his father.

On January 12, 1944 he was united in marriage to Viola Gruis at the Hope Reformed Church parsonage. George and Viola took over the family farm, retiring in 1979. He was a lifelong member and currently the oldest member of Hope Reformed Church where he served as Sunday school treasurer and Deacon. He enjoyed singing with the Men’s Double Quartet and attending Pairs and Spares activities. He enjoyed camping and fishing, playing pinochle games, and family vacations. His sense of humor was found to be charming to all. George remained living on the farm except for the last week of his life. On April 23, he entered Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa and on April 27th he became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center. This past Monday, May 4, 2009, George passed away at the George Good Samaritan Center with his loving wife, Viola and their daughter, Marlene at his side.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-five years, Viola of George; daughter, Marlene and her husband, David Ellrich of Olathe, Kansas; grandsons, Kyle Ellrich of Manhattan, Kansas and Mark Ellrich of Olathe, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Gruis of Little Rock, Iowa and Anne Gruis of George, Iowa and nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Arend and Minnie; brother, Harry and sister-in-law, Johanna.
