Mrs. Jennie Spieker, one of the pioneer residents of this community, died at her home in George, Lyon county, Iowa on Thursday of last week. Mrs. Spieker, who had been a resident of George since 1896, had many friends who grieve to learn of her demise. Her death came as a shock to the entire community, she had been in good health until a few days ago when she suffered a heart attack, which is given as the cause of her death.

Funeral services were held from the Spieker home and from the George Baptist church on Sunday afternoon. The services, which were largely attended, were conducted by Rev. Brenner, assisted by Rev. Swyter. Interment was made in the George cemetery.

Mrs. Jennie Spieker.

It has please Almighty God to take quietly, and very unexpectedly our sister from this earthly life, and to transfer her to the eternal abodes of Glory.

Mrs. Jennie Spieker, our sister in Christ, was born at Baileyville, Illinois, on the 17th of August, 1865 and died August 4th, 1938. She was a daughter of Mr. Myne and Mrs. Kathryn Van Loh. At the age of 22, she was converted, baptized by Rev. Parker, and affiliated with the Baptist church of Freeport, Illinois.

In 1896 she moved to Iowa and made George her permanent home on earth. She was joined in marriage to John Spieker in the year 1900. The Lord blessed this union with two children, Carl and Marie. But their matrimonial bliss was soon disturbed, for after only then years of the pilgrimage together, Mr. Spieker took his departure for the realms of the beyond, and Sister Spieker was left alone with her two young children.

Soon after her arrival in George, she joined the Second Baptist church and remained a very faithful member until her death. Sister Spieker was a sincere and abiding Christian. She loved the Lord, and she always joined the worshippers in the house of God. She was also active in the Ladies Missionary Society, sharing there the blessed fellowship with her sisters in Christ, and serving and sacrificing with the, in and for the great cause of our Savior and Lord.

She was a devoted and loving mother, and brought up her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and she spent much of her time in prayer for them. She too, had the unusual privilege and joy to see her son, Carl, enter the ministry of the Gospel. She was respected and esteemed by her church, her neighbors and the citizens of George.

During the time of her illness, she received most loving care from her daughter, Marie, who did all she could to make her last days on earth as comfortable as possible. Her brother, John D. Van Loh, also rendered kind and indispensable support, conscientiously supervision her financial burdens.

She leaves to mourn her death, her two children, Carl Spieker, pastor of the Baptist church at Sac City, Iowa, and Marie Spieker, of George, Iowa, her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carl Spieker, three grandchildren, Robert Carl, John Frank and Susan Ora, the children of Rev. and Mrs. Carl Spieker, her brother, John D. Van Loh, of George, Iowa, and two sisters, Minnie and Kathrun Van Loh. Blessed are the death who die in the Lord, for they rest from their labors.
