Marlys Curtis, 68, of Cherokee, Iowa died Thursday January 29, 2009 in the Good Samaritan Society Care Center, George, Iowa following a brief illness.

Marlys’ wishes were to be cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date this spring. Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Marlys was born on May 2, 1940 in Marshall, Minnesota to Albert and Sena (Stubbe) Rustman. On June 12, 1959 she married Richard Curtis in George, Iowa. Marlys worked for a short time at Pribe Produce in Sibley, Iowa. Richard and Marlys then made their home in Cherokee, Iowa for many years. Marlys cleaned houses and businesses here in Cherokee. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; a son James Curtis and his wife, Christie, of Marcus, Iowa; a daughter, Dawn Niemeier of Cherokee, Iowa; two granddaughters, Cameron and Madison Curtis of Marcus, Iowa; a sister, Ethel Kruger of Sibley, Iowa; her mother, Sena Stubbe Rustman of George, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Rustman; brothers-in-law, Richard Kruger and Dave Curtis; a sister-in-law, Edith Curtis.
