Barb Jones, age 47 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with burial at Holy Name Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Barbara Jean Jones was born December 31, 1961 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Joseph and Martha (Frembgen) McCarty. She was raised in Alvord, Iowa, until age four, when they moved to Rock Rapids. She and her family returned to the Alvord area at the age of eleven, where she stayed until she graduated from West Lyon High School in 1980. Barb continued her education at SDSU studying Political Science. She was employed at Citibank in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for several years before operating a business of her own which she called, ‘2nd Time Around’, first in Rock Rapids and later in Luverne, Minnesota. On July 29, 1995 Barb was united in marriage to Terry Jones at Island Park in Rock Rapids. The couple made their home in Rock Rapids where they continued to raise their family. Barb was a faithful member of her church and was active in the St. Catherine’s Society and a CCD teacher. Her family and faith were very important to her. She prayed for her family and Pope John Paul II faithfully everyday. Barb enjoyed decorating her house inside and out for all of the holidays, especially Halloween. She was passionate about politics. She was an avid reader, who stayed well informed, and loved a lively debate. But most of all, Barb loved her family and friends. Her heart encompassed not only her own children but their friends as well. She loved going to their school events and supporting them all in any way she could. She was loved for many reasons, including her unique personality. Barb will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Terry Jones of Rock Rapids, Iowa; four daughters, Anna Boltjes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Laura Bender of Ames, Iowa, Stephanie Bender of Ames, Iowa, and Emma Jones of Rock Rapids, Iowa; one son, Bryan Bender of Rock Rapids, Iowa; one grandson, Tanner Boltjes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four brothers, Mark (Renae) McCarty of Rock Rapids, Iowa, William (Julie) McCarty of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joseph (Kim) McCarty of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Patrick McCarty of Luverne, Minnesota; three sisters, Debra (Richard) Rikkers of Sioux Center, Iowa, Coleen (Buddy) Delfs of Le Mars, Iowa and Carol (Thomas) Rogers of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Martha McCarty.
