Ralph Smith was born March 5, 1901 at Okabena, Minnesota, the son of Dick and Anna (Geerdes) Smith. He was one of twelve children. The family moved to George, Iowa when Ralph was seven years old. He attended country school.

He married Mae Veenker. They farmed near George and was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.

Ralph died at his home in George on Saturday, November 30, 1991 at the age of 90 years, eight months and 26 days.

He leaves to cherish his memories: six children, Ronald and wife Bonnie of George, Iowa; Roger Smith of George, Iowa; Muriel and husband Kenneth Grooters of Verdi, Minnesota; Jerry and wife Elvira of George, Iowa; Audrey and husband Norman Grooters of Vancouver, Washington; Carol and husband Judson Schrick of Decorah, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Janice Smith of George, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ted Smith of Sheldon, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hansen; Mrs. Elsie Jackson; Allis and husband Thole Isebrands, all of vista, California; Kathryn and husband Harold Muselman of Oceanside, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mae; two sons, Charles and Norman, two sisters; infant daughter; two infant granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Funeral services for Ralph Smith were held Tuesday, December3, 1991 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa with interment the same day in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of George.
