Reka Luitjens was born August 23, 1919 at rural George, Iowa, the daughter of Harm and Ell (Garrels) Groen. She attended country school.

She married Raymond Luitjens on May 10, 1940. The farmed near Ashton until 1957. They later moved to George, where she did house cleaning. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church.

Reka dies Monday, February 25, 2002 at the Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 82

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Marlyn Luitjens of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Harold Luitjens of Ellsworth, Minnesota; one daughter, Lois Williams of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Theodore Groen of George, Iowa; and one sister, Helen Kruger of Little Rock, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; and one brother, George H. Groen.

Funeral services for Reka Luitjens were held Thursday, February 28, 2002 at Hope Reformed Church of rural George, with burial in the church cemetery.
