Richard Dale Kruger was born on August 24, 1936 in rural Ashton, Iowa, the son of Dick and Helen (Buss) Kruger. He was raised in the Ashton area and attended country school up to the 8th grade, and stayed home to help with the farming. On March 15, 1954 he was united in marriage to Ethel Rustman on the farm. Ethel is the daughter of Albert and Sena (Stubbe) Rustman.

During his working life, Richard farmed near Luverne, Minnesota and then returned to his hoe to help his father with the farming. He later worked as a logger in the state of Washington and while there, also was involved in dairy operations.

He returned to Sibley and continued in farming and dairy work. Richard was a member of Zoar Presbyterian Church of rural George, and had served on the Osceola County Fair Board. He enjoyed collecting Oliver tractor toys and toy Chevrolet cars and trucks, and also like to go camping. On November 4, 2004, Richard died at the Osceola Community Hospital at the age of 68.

Funeral services for Richard Kruger were held Monday, November 8, 2004 at Zoar Presbyterian Church of rural George, with interment the same day in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of George, Iowa.

Richard is survived by his wife Ethel Kruger of Sibley; one son, Steve (Jan) Kruger of Scottsdale, Arizona; three daughters, Debra Ann (Rodger) Macer of Rapid City, South Dakota, Karen Kay (Blair) & Paul Pischer of Worthington, Minnesota and Jessica Ann (Jose) Ochoa of LeMars, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grand-children; two sisters, Darlene Jurrens of LeMars, Iowa, Thelma Brown of Bellevue, Nebraska, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Helen Kruger, one grandson, Theodore Robert Kamstra; one brother, Gary Kruger, and one sister, Betty Kruger.
