Henry Winter was born December 13, 1916, on his parents' farm north of George, Lyon county, Iowa, the son of George and Tena (Jurrens) Winter. Henry was raised and educated north of George. At an early age, Henry was saved and was baptized in 1945.

On September 2, 1947, Henry was united in marriage to Hazel Blau at Hazel's parents' home. The newlywed couple made their home on his parents' farm until they purchased the present farm in 1956. Henry and Hazel lived and farmed there until he moved into the George Good Samaritan nursing home. He died there on April 10, 2005

During his life, Henry worked hard and always strived to be a man of integrity. He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church, where he held positions of church treasurer for eighteen years and was a trustee for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and fishing with his family. Henry died this past Sunday morning at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA at the age of eighty-eight.

Henry is survived by his wife, Hazel of George; children, Twilla and her husband, Steve Van Hal of Lakefield, Minnesota; George Winter of George, Iowa; James and his wife, Stephanie Winter of Omaha, Nebraska; Eileen Winter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Merlyn Winter of George, Iowa; and Darwin Winter of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; one brother, John and his wife, Bernice Winter of George, Iowa: and one sister, Henrietta Schneiderman of George, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Tena; sisters, Mary Stratman and Helen Arends; brothers, Harm and young boy John Winter.
Funeral services for Henry Winter were held on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at First Baptist Church, George, Iowa, with interment at First Baptist Cemetery, northeast of George, Iowa
