Mrs. Mae Smith was born May 23, 1906 at rural George, Lyon county, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Fannie (Casjens) Veenker. She lived her entire life in the George area, attending country and town school.

She married Ralph Smith and to this union were born 9 children. They farmed near George until 1966 when they moved to town. She was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women.

She passed away at a Sioux City, Iowa hospital on July 1, 1982, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 8 days.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Ralph; five sons: Ronald, Roger, Norman and Jerry, all of George, Iowa, and Charles, of Austin, Texas; three daughters: Muriel (Mrs. Kenneth Grooters) of Verdi, Minnesota, Audrey (Mrs. Norman Grooters) of Vancouver, Washington, and Carol (Mrs. Judson Schrick) of Lake Benton, Minnesota; two brothers, Elmer Veenker, of Kent, Washington, and Harold Veenker, of West Lafayette, Indiana; four sisters: Grace Veenker, Lillian (Mrs. John W Dreesman), Rose (Mrs. Alfred Meester) all of George, Iowa and Irene Veenker, of Auburn, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter Eleanor; and two brothers, Ralph and Carl.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 3, 1982 at 1:30 p m from the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of George, Iowa with interment at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George, Iowa.
