He was born March 13, 1948 at Sibley, Osceola county, Iowa, the son of George H. and Luella (Hilbrands) Groen He lived his entire youth in the George area, graduating from George High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served from 1966 to 1969.

Don married Irene Vierhout, of Hartley, lowa, on April 4, 1970, at the Melvin Reformed Church. They farmed in the George area.

He passed away at the Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa hospital on Dec 23, 1980, at the ale of 32 years, 9 months and 10 days.

He leaves to survive: his wife Irene; 4 children: Dan, Jeff, Marti, Kristi, all at home; his mother, Mrs Luella Groen of George, Iowa; brother Byron Groen of George; 2 sisters: Melba (Mrs James Apperson) of Royal Oak, Michigan, Elmira (Mrs Marvin Schipper) of George; his grandmother, Airs Alma Hilbrands of George.

SERVICES:
Funeral services were held on December 27, 1980 from the Hope Reformed Church of George, Iowa, with interment at Hope Reformed Cemetery,southwest of George, with military Rites: Jack Sauter Post 404 of George.
