Funeral services for Kenneth Christensen, 71, of Inwood, Lyon county, Iowa, were held November 21, 1992 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Inwood, with interment in Richland Cemetery.

He died Wednesday, November 18, 1992, at Canton-Inwood Hospital, Canton, South Dakota.

Mr. Christensen was born March 26, 1921, at Plentywood, Montana. He graduated from high school in Viborg, South Dakota. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1941 to 1945 during World War II.

On June 18, 1949, he married Pat Hansen in Sioux City, Iowa.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. He then took advanced studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Fresno State University (California) and Claremont Graduate School. He began teaching at Beresford, South Dakota, and then was superintendent at
Trent, Primghar, Quimby, Kings-Trent for 12 years and West Lyon (Iowa) from 1969 until retirement in 1984.

He was a VISTA mediator for three years, a member of Sapphire Lodge #427 at Rock Valley, Iowa, Scottish Rite of Sioux City, member and past president of the Inwood, Iowa, Kiwanis Club, member of the Canton-Inwood Hospital board, past northwest Iowa representative of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association for 18 years, member of the Inwood American Legion and member and lay minister of the Inwood Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Thomas of Manhattan Beach, California, Randy of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Ken of Fort Collins, Colorado; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Cathy) Pollema of Mequon, Wisconsin; six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Irene) Nelson of Viborg, South Dakota.
