Funeral services for Helena Karsten, 73, of Canby, Minnesota, were held May 11, 1992 in United Methodist Church, Gary, South Dakota with interment in Grandview Cemetery.

She died May 8, 1992 n a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hospital.

Helena Bartels was born March 17, 1919 in Little Rock, Lyon county, Iowa. She moved with her parents when she was 8 years old to George, Lyon county, Iowa and attended school there.

On August 12, 1944 she married Clifford Karsten in Vallejo, California. They lived there until 1946 and then moved to George. They moved to a farm in the Gary and Canby area in March of 1955.

She was a member of Peden-Cole Post #109 Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Clark Hanson VFW Post #117 Auxiliary of Canby.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Andrea Reynolds of Clear Lake, South Dakota, and Marge Mahoney of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren; four brothers, Harry of Spokane, Washington, Harm of George, Jake of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Elmer of Kasson, Minnesota, and four sisters, Mrs. Jake (Sena) Van Briesen and Mrs. Bert (Elizabeth) Klaahsen, both of George, Mrs. Warren (Jennie) Heyer of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. Don (Mae) Jacoy of Vancouver, Washington.
