Robert DeJong, age 54, of Orange City died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital. Memorial services were Saturday, May 1, 1998, at First Reformed Church, in Orange City. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. DeJong was born on Sept. 27, 1943, in Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa, the son of Jake and Marian (Faber) DeJong. He grew up near Doon, graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, and attended Dordt College in Sioux Center.

On April 15, 1961 he married Marly Van Schepen in Hull. They lived in Hull where he was an office manager and claims adjustor for Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. They later moved to Orange City where he managed the LeMars Federal Savings and Loan Association office in LeMars. He became the airport manager in Orange City in 1972 and also served as pilot for Diamond Vogel Paint Co. In August 1986 he graduated from the American Airlines Flight Academy in Dallas, Texas, and was a captain for American Airlines.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Fairmont, Minn., and Cal of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Ronda) Moret and Mrs. Brent (Jena) Dorhout, both of Orange City; six grandchildren; his parents of Hull, and one sister, Brenda Haan of DeMotte, Indiana.
