Funeral services for Mrs. Christena Pettengill, 91, of Rock Rapids, Lyon County, Iowa, were held this afternoon (Wednesday, May 27, 1981) at the United Methodist Church here. Burial was in RIverview cemetery in Rock Rapids under the direction of Jongewaard-Roste Funeral Home.

She died on Sunday, May 24, 1981, at Merrill Pioneer Community hospital, following a week's hospitalization.

Christena Guyan was born in Jones County, Iowa on January 2, 1890. On May 10, 1916 at Monticello she was married to Sylvester H. Pettengill and they made their home in Rock Rapids from then on, where he was active in the concrete and building supply business for many years. He died in 1959. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Roscoe, Rock Rapids, and Leon, Rochester, Minnesota; three daughters: Mrs. Sara Lou Kostman, Alexandria, Minnesota, Mrs. Joann Anderson, Des Moines, and Mrs. Pauline Sindt, Rock Rapids; a niece, Mrs. Verna Kahl, Rock Rapids, whom she reared; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Rieniets and Mrs. Franey Hein, both of Monticello; and other descendants.
