GROENWOLD, DONKER, ACKERMAN

Funeral services for Dick Groenwold were conducted on November 14, 1975 from the Zion Presbyterian Church at Ellsworth, Nobles county, Minnesota. Interment was in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of George, Lyon county, Iowa.

Dick Groenwold, son of Dick and Johanna (Donker) Groenwold, was born January 2, 1927 at George, Lyon county, Iowa. He attended the rural schools in this area and on January 2, 12951 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served with the 7th Inf. Division and was awarded the Bronze Star for action during the Korean conflict. He was discharged from the army on October 2, 1952

On May 16, 1952 he was united in marriage to Mabel Dell Ackerman at George and to this union a daughter was born. The couple lived in George where he worked for Ackerman Concrete and in 1959 the family moved to Ellsworth, Nobles county, Minnesota, where he farmed until the time of his passing. He was admitted to a Sioux City, Iowa hospital in October of 1974 where he submitted to surgery. He also underwent surgery in July and October of 1975. He passed away at his home on November 11, 1975.

Survivors are his wife, Mabel and his daughter Karla Mae; his mother, Mrs. Johanna Groenwold of George; two brothers: John and Richard of George, two sisters: Mrs. Delmer (Engelina) Groen of Rick Rapids, Lyon county, and Mrs. Gerald (Jennie) Grave of George. He was preceded in passing by his father Dick and a brother Heye.
