Funeral services for Mrs. Richard (Luella) Klaahsen were conducted January 12, 1976 from the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Lyon county, Iowa.

Mrs. Richard (Luella) Klaahsen was born June 16, 1888 at Staceyville, Mitchell county, Iowa, the daughter of the Rev. and Amelia (Blocklinger) Hayenga. She moved with her parents to the George area in 1900 where her father served as the pastor of the Zoar Presbyterian Church east of the town. She attended George high school and later Dubuque high school. Luella taught in the rural schools of Lyon and Osceola counties in Iowa and attended the teacher institutes during the summer months.

On March, 1912 she was united in marriage to Richard Klaahsen in the Zoar Presbyterian Church. Mr. Klaahsen passed away in 1959. She later was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Ladies’ Aid.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one son; four brothers; one sister and four nieces.

Survivors are two sons: Bert Klaahsen of George and Maurice Klaahsen of Little Rock, also in Lyon county, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Arlene Klaahsen; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Rev. I. F. Hayenga of Tipton, Cedar county, Iowa, and Ben Hayenga of Laguna Beach, California.
