William Mammenga, a resident of George, Lyon county, Iowa, took his own life at his home on April 11, 1940. The Mammenga family lived in the George area for four years and Mr. Mammenga had farmed a piece of land west of George most of that time.

William Mammenga was born in Osceola county, Iowa on October 3, 1901, the fourth child in a family of 8 children. In January 1922 he was united in marriage to Minnie Tiel. At the time of their marriage, they settled on the farm, living with the Tiels. Later they undertook farming on other farms, until four years ago, when they moved to George.

This marriage was the origin of 12 children, 6 sons and 6 daughter of whom one son preceded the father into death.

His departure came very suddenly on April 11 at about 10:20 p.m., attaining the age of 38 years, 6 months and 9 days. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and 11 children. They are Clara, Luis, Levi, Francis, Margaret, William, Minnie Mae, Johnny, Orval, Helen and Luella. Besides these he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Mammenga, four brothers, Leroy, Luis, Levi and Earl, two sisters, Bessie Mae, Mrs. Henry H. Stubbe and Mabel, at home. Furthermore, he leaves a grandmother, Mrs. Wieman, residing in Portland, Oregon.
