Mr. Klaahsen was born July 8, 1879 at Ridot, Stephenson county, Illinois, the son of Freerk H. and Engel Hammus Klaahsen. As a boy of eight, the family moved to the vicinity of the present town of George, Lyon county, Iowa. He attended the Grant Center school in Grant township in Lyon county.

On March 11, 1903 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kruger at the family home near George. They lived for a short time at Mountain Lake, Minnesota and return to Lyon county the fall of 1903. In 1911 they settled on a farm near George where they lived until they retired in 1939. That year they moved to a small acreage and in 1943 moved to George. On March 1, 1967, Mr. Klaahsen moved to Little Rock, Lyon county, Iowa where he resided until he became ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Klaahsen were the parents of eight children; Ollie (Mrs. John Duitsman), John and Fred, all of George; Lillian (Mrs. Henry Sprock) of Steen, Rock county, Minnesota, Dena (Mrs. Leo Pauly) of Tenstrike, Beltrami country, Minnesota; Louis of Sibley, Osceola county, Iowa; Bertha Mae (Mrs. Albert DeYounge) of Little Rock; and Elnora (Mrs. William Jones) of Wanaska, Roseau county, Minnesota.

Besides his children, he is survived by 23 grandchildren, also one sister, Rica (Mrs. Dan Protextor) of Slayton, Murray county, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers, two sisters and six grandchildren. Mr. Klaahsen was a county supervisor for 18 years, on the Department of Social Welfare for nine years, and a director of the Farmers Elevator of George for about 30 years.
