Lambert L. Popkes – 1918-1963

Funeral services for Lambert L. Popkes were held Monday, November 4, 1963 at the Vogelaar Funeral Chapel and the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Lyon county, Iowa. Burial was in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of George.

Lambert was the son of the late Lammert and Sophia Wibben Popkes, born on March 30, 1894 on a farm one miles north of George,

On February 26, 1918 he was united in marriage to Tena Hilbrands. To this union three children were born: Sophia, Mrs. Benart Eilders of Worthington, Nobles county, Minnesota; Mary, Mrs. Roy Powers of San Jose, California and Lyle.

Lambert and his family moved to a farm 8 miles northwest of George, where they lived until 1946 when they moved to the town of George.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tena in 1949; his son Lyle in 1962; by two brothers, Popke Popkes and Henry Popkes; and by one sister, Sarah, Mrs. John Rosenboom

He is survived by his two daughters; two brothers, Menno Popkes of George, Reemt Popkes of Slayton, Minnesota. And two sisters: Grace Popkes and Ida, Mrs. Peter J. Kruger, both of George; by twelve grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

Lambert was a long-time member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of George. Death came on October 31, 1963 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Olmsted county, Minnesota following a brief illness. At death he had reached the age of 69 years and 7 months.
