Harlyn M. Stubbe, age 72, of George, Lyon county, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Sanford Merrill Medical Center in Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008, at Hope Reformed Church at George, Iowa, with Rev. David Vander Laan, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Reformed Cemetery at George.

Harlyn Merle Stubbe was born March 3, 1936, at Luverne, Minnesota, the son of Enno and Ella (Jansen) Stubbe. Harlyn grew up near Magnolia, Minnesota, and at the age of six, his family moved to George. He attended Wheeler Number 2 country school west of George and graduated from George High School in 1954. After his education he worked as a painter, drove truck for his brother-in-law Ronald Smith and also worked at Swalve Produce in George.

Harlyn was united in marriage to Marlene Meendering at Bethel Reformed Church of rural Ellsworth, Minnesota on December 4, 1959. They made their home on a farm south of George, and in 1965 they moved to the home place north of Hope Reformed Church where Harlyn farmed and lived until they moved into town in March of 1998.

During his life he served his Lord by being a faithful member of the Hope Reformed Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He also served on the elevator board. Harlyn continued to farm with his son Douglas until his health would not allow him to be involved. Harlyn very seldom missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s events. He enjoyed watching them grow and develop, always willing to offer his support and encouragement. His grandchildren viewed him as a perfect grandfather. His children remember taking many vacations over the years, including several to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Harlyn was known for his booming voice and laughter, which expressed his sense of humor and love for life. He will also be remembered for his strong commitment to faith and his love for his family and friends. This past Tuesday morning, June 3, 2008, Harlyn lost his battle with cancer at the age of seventy-two at the Sanford Merrill Medical Center in Rock Rapids.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene of George, Iowa; by a son, Douglas and his wife, Becky of George; by three daughters: Marvella and her husband Lennis Harberts of Sibley, Angela and her husband Paul Van Briesen of George, Hedy and her husband Curt Kruger of Rock Rapids; by twelve grandchildren: Jason, Chelsea, Keshia, Drew, Karlee, Ethan, Jurnea, Britta, Dalton, Dylan, Kyla, and Brandon; by two sisters, Bonnie and her husband Ronald Smith of George, and Elvie and her husband Jerry Smith of George; and by one brother, Roger and his wife Joyce Stubbe of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Harlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Enno and Ella; and by a granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Stubbe.
