HILDRING, BETTY AMELIA LONG
Betty Hildring, 90, a former farmer, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 1996, at Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Betty Amelia Long was born May 11, 1905 near Larchwood, Iowa. She taught school in rural Larchwood, and later married Gilmer Hildring on June 3, 1925, in Granite, Iowa. They farmed in the Larchwood and Granite area. Her husband preceded her in death. Services begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Covenant Church in rural Larchwood, with burial at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Roste Funeral Home in Larchwood, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Prayer services begin at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. obituary in SIOUX FALLS ARGUS LEADER Feb.1996

Funeral Pamphlet - Betty had strong hands. She could wring a wash cloth dry and there was no doubt a canning jar was tightly closed when she was around. She enjoyed playing the piano and reading her Bible. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making cookies (ground raisin), it was very rare that she wouldn't have something homemade to have with coffee when family or friends would stop to visit.

One of thirteen brothers and sisters born to Charles and Emma Johnson Long on their farm near Larchwood, IA passed away on Sunday, Feb 18, 1996 at Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Betty was born May 11, 1905 near Larchwood, IA, where she grew up and attended school. She continued her education at a local teachers college where she received her teaching certificate. Betty taught school in rural Larchwood, and later married Gilmer Hildring on June 3, 1925 in Granite, IA, Following their marriage Betty and Gilmer farmed together in the Larchwood and Granite, IA area and became the parents of three daughters and two sons. Betty was a member of the Grandview Covenant Church of rural Larchwood. She was devoted to her extended family. Years of arduous labor left her little time for hobbies, however, she delighted in the ongoing joys of motherhood and grand-motherhood. Gardening was her most enjoyable pastime, but making quilts and crocheting produced many works of art over the years.
