Shenandoah, Iowa, Tuesday, March 23, 1920
R.H. Spencer Father of Mrs. Deater, Died
Mr. Spencer passed away yesterday at 4:10 a.m. He was a Pioneer of Fremont County.

R. H. Spencer, who had been suffering with diabetes the past several months, passed away this
morning at 4:10 at the home of his daughter Mrs. H. E. Deater.

Mr. Spencer's birth place was Harrisburg Penn., where he lived until a young man. He was united in marriage to Miss Margery Leighty at Uniontown, Penn., when twenty four years of age and after a few years they came west settling in Fremont county near Imogene, where they resided for some years.

They afterward moved to a farm in Lyon county near Lester where in 1901, Mrs. Spencer died. Later his youngest daughter married and since, he has made his home with his children.

Mr. Spencer was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years, but there being none of that denomination at Lester, he united with the M.E. church there. He was a conscientious Christian man and lived in his belief in the Word.

Six children survive their father as follows: Mrs. H.E. Deater of Shenandoah, Mrs. Hattie Gardner, Motley, Minn., Mrs. Stella Moberly, Watertown, So Dak., Mrs. Blanche Beck, Pierson, Ia., the son J.W. of Granite Canon Wyo., and H.E. of Tulare, South Dakota.

The funeral was held from the Deater home this morning at 9:30 conducted by Rev. A.S. Woodward of the M.E. church. The remains were taken to Lester for interment beside those of his wife.
