S.F. Teacher Dies Suddenly - Irene K. Olson, 36, Succumbs at Mother's home Near Inwood

Irene K. Olson, 36, Washington High School English teacher, died suddenly Sunday at the home of her mother near Inwood, Iowa. (May 17, 1952) Miss Olson had gone to her mother's home over the weekend after conducting classes Friday. Miss Olson lived at 930 1/2 S. Phillips Ave.

Born in Sioux Falls, October 16, 1916, Miss Olson was graduated from Inwood High School in 1935. She attended Augustana College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree there in 1940 with cum laude honors. After teaching for five years, she took a year's leave of absence to complete work for her Master of Arts degree at Northwestern University in 1948. Her teaching experience includes two years of rural teaching in Iowa and as a high school teacher, two years at Albert City, Ia., two years at Mitchell and the past seven years at Washington High School.

Miss Olson was a member of Alpha Sigma Chi, the Fidelis Club at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and was past president of the Sioux Falls Toastmistress' Club.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Sefrena Olson, and a younger brother, Felix. Her father, Ole T. Olson, and her older brother, Hagel, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the farm home near Inwood and at 2 p.m. at our Saviour's Lutheran Church near Inwood.
