BENNETT, THOMAS J. 1877-1942
Thomas J. Bennett, age 65, died at his home at 1301 East Eighth St., Sunday afternoon having been ailing for a short time. A Sioux Falls waterworks employee for 14 years since his arrival in Sioux Falls, Bennett was born at Finchford, Blackhawk County, Iowa., October 4, 1877. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Bennett. He came to Fairview, South Dakota as a young man and resided there for some time, later marrying Amelia Moeller near Larchwood, Iowa, March 20, 1901. Later the family moved to near Granite, Iowa, where they farmed until coming to Sioux Falls in 1929.
Bennett is survived by his widow; three daughters, Bernice Sylvia, and Inez, Sioux Falls; four sons; Virgil and Martin, Larchwood, Iowa; Earl, Sioux Falls, and Dale, Los Angeles, California; two grandchildren, and four brothers, George Ellensburg, Washington; Schuyler and Sam, Volin, South Dakota and William, Holland, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Miller funeral chapel. Rev. Richard De Villers of the First Christian church will officiate. Mrs. J.A. Ashley will be the organist and Mrs. Henry Feay will be soloist. Charles Swanson, Anthon Swanson, Axel Bonander, Lars Jensen, all of Granite, Iowa., and Roy Steiner and Walter Sydow, Sioux Falls, are to be pallbearers. The body is at the Miller funeral home.
