John H. Klaassen was born on March 9, 1895, to Harm and Hattie (Wichman) Klaassen in Grant Township, Lyon County, Iowa, south of Little Rock. He attended school and spent his childhood days in Grant Township.

He married Edith Klaasen on January 31, 1917, in Zoar Presbyterian Church. To this union were born twelve children. They lived near George and they also lived throughout their married life near Ellsworth and Little Rock. In 1961 they retired and moved to Little Rock.

He was a member of the Salem Reformed Church. For nine years he served as a supervisor in Lyon County. He became ill on November 30, and passed away at the Sibley hospital on December 4, 1977, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 25 days.

He is survived by eleven children: Harmon of Worthington, Minnesota, Helena (Mrs. Richard Sprock) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Raymond of Ellsworth, Minn., Esther (Mrs. Everon Kinkenborg) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Ruth (Mrs. Albertus Van Westen) of LuVerne, Minn., Alma (Mrs. Elmer De Buhr) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Alfred of Ellsworth, Minn., Lois (Mrs. George Snitselaar) of Pleasanton, California, John Jr. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ronald of Lakewood, California, and Erma (Mrs. Ubbe Wagenaar) of Adrian, Minnesota. He also leaves 48 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one brother, Fred of Sibley, Iowa, and one sister, Anna (Mrs. Fred Abels) of Sibley, Iowa.

Mr. Klaassen was preceded in death by his wife, one sone, Paul, his parents, six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Klaassen were held on Wednesday, December 7, 1977 at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa, with Rev. Harold Kammeraad officiating.

Casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased: Dennis Sprock, David Klaassen, Myron Kinkenborg, Jim Kinkenborg, Keith Van Westen, and Jeffrey Klaassen.

Burial took place in the Pleasant View cemetery at Little Rock, Iowa, with Vogelaar-Bolin Funeral Home of George in charge of arrangements.
