KAMPEN, Fannie 1898-2004

Fannie was born on December 12, 1898, at Leaf River, Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Fannie (Hieren) Pals. At the age of eight she moved with her family to Twin Books, South Dakota. She attended country school in South Dakota. After a few years the family moved to George, Iowa.

She married Wesley Goldhorn on January 4, 1917, and they had two daughters, Viola and Vera. Wesley died on April 25, 1921. Fannie later married George Kampen, and they lived in Twin Brooks, South Dakota. Two daughters were born to this union, Lois and Mavis. The couple later moved to Corona, South Dakota, and then retired in Milbank. George died on May 31, 1960. Fannie later moved to Dawson, Minnesota, and in October 1995 she became a resident of the Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Dawson.

Fannie was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Twin Brooks, South Dakota.

She died on January 6, 2004 at Dawson, Minnesota. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 9, 2004 at Johnson Memorial Nursing Home Chapel in Dawson. She was buried in Milbank City Cemetery, Milbank, South Dakota.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Viola Koenen, Clara City, Minnesota; Mrs. Vera Abels, Dawson, Minn., and Mavis Kampen, Madison, Minn.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Boone, Hull, Iowa, and Hazel Elenga, Rock Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, one daughter, Lois Abels, two sisters, four brothers, one grandson, three great-grandsons, and two sons-in-law, George Koenen and Harm Abels.
