Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at George, Iowa, for Dick Siebrands, age 84, of George -- a long-time resident of that community. Siebrands died on Tuesday, May 26, 1970, at the Merrill Pioneer Community hospital.

The services were held on May 29th at the Hope Reformed church of rural George, with the Rev. Raymond Denekas officiating. Special music was provided by a duet: Mrs. John Groenwald and Mrs. George O. Groen, who sand two selections: "Beyond the Sunset" and "Lights of Home." The organist was Harlan Stubbe.

Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Vogelaar Funeral Home. Grandsons served as pallbearers; they were Murnice Popkes, Paul Siebrands, Robert Krull, David Ackerman, John Gerken and Eldon Klaassen.

Dick Siebrands was born in Illinois on August 10, 1885, and moved to Lyon county as a youth in 1902. He farmed in the George area, for miles west and two miles north of George, for many years, and lived at that location at the time of his death. In 1910 Dick was married to Trentje Goldhorn.

Survivors include his widow; his sons, Ben, Loren, and Richard of George; daughters, Mrs. Henry (Margaret) Krull of Beaver Creek, Minnesota, Mrs. John (Leota) Gerken of George, Mrs. Alfred (Lavonne) Klaassen of Little Rock; a brother, William of George, a sister, Mrs. Frank Heeren of Little Rock; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

SIEBRANDS, Dick 1885-1970

Funeral services for Dick Siebrands, a life-long Lyon county, Iowa resident were held Friday, May 29, 1970 from the Hope Reformed Church southwest of George, Lyon County, Iowa. Burial was in the cemetery beside the church.

Dick Siebrands was born on August 10, 1885 in Stephenson county, Illinois, the sone of Peter and Wiena (Modder) Siebrands. At the age of 17 he moved with his parents to the Lyon county area where he lived all of his adult life.

He was united in marriage to Trientje (Tena) Goldhorn on June 1, 1910 and to this union was born seven children. One daughter, Elvina, passed away in 1936.

Survivors are his wife Tena, six children: Ben, Lawrence and Richard, all of George, Margaret (Mrs. Henry Krull) of Beaver Creek, Rock county, Minnesota, Lavonne (Mrs. Alfred Klaasen) of Little Rock, Lyon county, Iowa, and Leota (Mrs. Jack Gerken of George. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, one brother, William of George and one sister, Mrs. Annie Heeren, of Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one brother, Harm, and one grandson. At the time of his passing, Dick had reached the age of 84 years, 9 months and 16 days. He passed away in the Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa and had been in poor health for quite some time following a stroke several years ago.
