Robert LeRoy Halferty, son of Jasper Halferty and Elizabeth Gathercole Halferty, was born Oct 28, 1912 in Lucas county and passed away Jan 16, 1979 in Des Moines. He grew up on a farm in Lucas county, attended Vowter grade school and graduated from Chariton High School with the class of 1933.

Robert was united in marriage to Maudie Smith of Chariton. To this union three children were born. He had lived in Des Moines all his married life except the time he spent in World War II. He successfully operated a gas station for 29 years and was a member of the Moingona Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Maudie, one daughter, Mary Katherine, and husband Douglas Hanson of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Larry and wife, Jan of Des Moines, John and wife Barbara of Saint Louis, Mo. and six grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Patterson of Des Moines and Margaret Vickroy of Bettendorf; three brothers, Joe, Glenn and Dave, all of Chariton.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan 19, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Merle Hay Funeral Home, Des Moines with Pastor Donald L Carver conducting. Burial was in the Chapel Hill Gardens, Des Moines.
