CharitonLeola Thompson, age 83, died March 29, 2011 after many years of declining health.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Indianola. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Leola was born October 11, 1927 near Derby in Lucas County, daughter of Harold and Regina (Querrey) Mundell. She attended Simpson College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Lucas and Madison counties.
She married Paul Thompson on June 6, 1948, in Indianola. Together they had four children. They lived in Winterset and Des Moines before purchasing a farm near New Virginia in 1953, where they lived until moving to Chariton in 2007.
Leola was a dedicated wife and mother. She was active in several churches throughout her lifetime. She loved to travel, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, always had a houseful of green plants, and was a voracious reader.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Paul; son, Paul Craig (Connie) Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Susan Thompson (Larry Babcock) of Panora; Nancy Thompson of Des Moines; Rebecca (Mark) Felderman of Chariton; seven grandchildren, Laurie and Chrissy Thompson; Marshall, Sam, William and Regina Felderman; Matthew Thompson; two brothers, William (Mary) Mundell, and Jim (Joyce) Mundell; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Viola; and brother Joseph.
Memorials may be made to Circle of Life Legacy Lodge Hospice or Freedom Bible Camp. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register 01 April 2011.
