Thursday, January 9, 1908Sympathy goes out to MR. and MRS. JAMES O'DONNELL, of Washington Township,
in the loss of their son, whose death occurred last Saturday. BILLY, as he
was usually called was a promising boy of about 18 years of age and was one
of the best boys in the whole neighborhood. At home he was cheerful, full
of innocent life, obedient and kind, besides being of a very industrious
turn. He was at school on the previous Tuesday but returned home on account
of feeling ill. Later he grew much worse and his trouble was pronounced
appendicitis. An operation was performed but he could not survive the
nervous shock. The funeral occurred on Monday and his remains were deposited in the
Cemetery at Melrose. In his life time he was a joy to the household and one
in whom his parents took much pride. They had instructed him in those
virtues so essential to the formation of character and had been rewarded by
his pursuit of the ways of rectitude, and now in death they will none the
less cherish his memory.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MR. and MRS. JAMES O'DONNELL and family have the sympathy of the entire
community in the loss of their eldest son, WILLIAM P. O'DONNELL. He was
taken sick on Tuesday, Dec. 31, with appendicitis. Dr. Brockman of Ottumwa,
assisted by Drs. Riordan of Melrose, and Buzard of Russell, performed an
operation on Thursday. But with all the skill and care that could be given
the young man passed away Saturday evening. He was MR. O'DONNELL's eldest
son and was beginning to be his main help upon the farm. He had just passed
his fifteenth year. WILLIAM was a bright, intelligent young man, respected
by all, and loved by all his youthful companions.
