The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, June 11, 1908

MRS. PEARLEY FARBER, who has been very low for some time, died on Tuesday,
June 2, at the home of her father, JOHN Q. WERTS. The entire community
extend their sympathy to the family in their sad bereavement.

'IN MEMORIAM'

PEARLY EDITH WERTS was born south of Russell, in Lucas County, Iowa, on
September 1st, 1882. Died at the home of her father, JOHN Q. WERTS, at noon
June 2, 1908, aged 25 years, 9 months and 1 day, of tuberculosis.

She united with the Presbyterian Church in 1901, of which she was a
consistent member at her death. She was united in marriage to G.C. FARBER
September 7, 1904, and to their union was born a son, HAROLD DALE , November
2, 1905, who only lived about a week. In March, 1907, her husband went with
her to Texas in the hope that under the influence of a milder climate her
health would improve, but after a sojourn there of several months she began
to fail rapidly, so they came back March 20, 1908, having been away about a
year. She has been gradually growing weaker and failing ever since and
friends and relatives knew that the end was drawing near although she did
not give up hopes of getting well until about a month ago, and when she
found out that she could not get well she expressed a desire to go except
that she wished to live to see her brother ORVAL, married, and said at
different times, "she wished she might be taken that day or that night."
She wanted the people to know that she was ready and prepared to go, and she
asked MRS. WERTS to read the Bible to her the morning that she died. She
leaves to mourn her loss, a loving husband, father, sister, brother, besides
numerous relatives and friends. She was of rather quiet disposition and in
our short acquaintance with her she seemed to accept her lot uncomplainingly
and to bear her trials patiently. Everything was done for her that loving
thought and tender ministrations could do to help her in any way.

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church at ten o'clock
Thursday, conducted by Rev. S.A. Soxe. Interment in the Russell Cemetery.
