RUSSELL NEWS:

MYRTLE ESTHER, daughter of PHILIP A. and LYDIA J. ROCKEY, was born May 7,
1886, in Russell, Iowa, and her spirit was called away by the angel of death
June 3, 1907, at Hemingsford, Neb.

MYRTLE spent her childhood and young womanhood in Russell, graduating from
the Russell High School May 25, 1904, then attending College for a time and
spending the last two years of her life in the south and west. She united
with the Presbyterian Church when but a child and continued faithful to that
church home until called to be a member of that home above. Before passing
away, in talking with her father, she expressed her willingness to go and
was ready to meet her Savior. For all the tokens of love she wished to
thank her many friends.

She has gone to join her mother, who preceded her a little less than a year
ago. A sorrowing father is left to mourn the loss of both wife and daughter

A host of relatives and friends extend heartfelt sympathy to him in this
dark hour of trials.

MYRTLE has gone from us but the influence of her pure, sweet life will live
on.

Her life is ended; She has fulfilled the mission for which God intended her
and now He has called her home.

Funeral discourse: John 11:35 and Timothy 1:10, Subject, "The meaning of our
Tears, or Life through Death." Funeral poem, Longfellow's "The Reaper and
the Flowers."

Services conducted by Rev. S.A. Soxe at the Presbyterian Church, assisted by
Revs. Rusk and Stote.

The floral decorations were profuse and beautiful, tender messages of love
and sympathy. At the close of the services the remains were gently laid to
rest in the Russell Cemetery.

The following resolutions were adopted by the Christian Endeavor Society:

Whereas; -- The great and supreme Ruler of the Universe has, in His infinite
wisdom, removed from among us, one of our most admired and most beloved
young lives, that of MYRTLE ESTHER ROCKEY, and whereas, because of long and
intimate relation held with her in the faithful discharge of her duties, as
organist, president, and efficient co-laborer for Christ, in this society it
becomes eminently benefiting that we record our appreciation of a service so
faithful and a life so pure, therefore,

Be it resolved; -- That the interest and ability, promptness, and efficiency
which she has shown in our society by her service, contributions, and
especially the influence of that quiet and pure life, will be held in
grateful remembrance.

Furthermore, Resolved; -- That the sudden removal of such a life from among
our midst leaves a vacancy and a shadow that will be deeply realized by all
the members of the society, and will prove a serious loss to this
organization, to the church, and to the whole community.

Resolved; -- That with deep sympathy for the bereaved father, now alone, we
express our hope that even so great a loss to us all, may be overruled for
good, by Him who doeth all things well.
