MR. JOHN THROCKMORTON died on Thursday of last week in the eighty-first year
of his age. He was a man of unique personality, and widely known. His
residence in Iowa has always been on the farm where he died, much of the
land he obtained from the U.S. Government at one dollar and a quarter an
acre; he and his family settled there in 1856.

His funeral was in the Derby M.E. Church last Sunday at 11:00 a.m.,
conducted by his pastor, Rev. Armstrong who paid a very beautiful tribute to
the memory of the departed and preached a very instructive sermon. Rev.
Dickerson, of the Presbyterian Church assisted in the services.
