JONAS NEWMAN was born in Sweden, April 16, 1821. He was married Dec. 29,
1849, to CHRISTINE LOUISE JOHNSON, which marriage has been happy and blessed
with eleven children, of which five have gone before him to rest, the

MRS. LOTTIE WIREN, of Belinda; EMILY NEWMAN, of Wayne, Neb., VICTOR, of
California. All but the latter being present at this time.

MR. NEWMAN came to America with his family in September, 1852, and settled
at Andover, Ill., at which place he was one of the organizers of the Synod
of the Swedish Lutheran Church and was sent as a delegate from Andover. He
removed to Iowa in 1870, and lived on a farm near Belinda until March 1,
1905, when he came to Chariton, where he has since resided. He united with

He was a man of sterling character, was outspoken and hated hypocrisy and
falsehoods, but loved truth in its purity. Funeral services were held at
the home at 2 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.P.
Borg, and the remains interred in the Chariton Cemetery.
