FRANK MELVILLE JOHNSTON, son of JAS. and HANNAH JOHNSTON, was born September
2, 1859, in Mahaska County, Iowa. He was married to MISS MARGARET CLARK, at
Chariton, Dec. 25, 1888. to this union were born four sons, IRA D., MYRL,
KENNETH and HERBERT, all of whom are living.

MR. JOHNSON had a modest and cheerful disposition, one who made many friends
and few enemies, and was respected by all who knew him. He was taken sick
just one week previous to his death with the dreaded disease, pneumonia, and
died Tuesday evening, March 26, 1907. The funeral services were held at the
home Thursday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. A.H. Stote. Words fail to express
one's sentiment in a case of this kind, and they seem but a repetition of
what has been said many times before, for death always appears in many ways
the same grim monster, but his aspect certainly should not be so forbidding
and terrifying, when assured of the peaceful rest with Jesus. This thought
must come as a comfort to the widowed wife and fatherless children in this
dark hour of sorrow. The sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends is
extended to the sorrowing ones.
