The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, March 7, 1907

The many friends of Aunt ELLEN DAVIS were sorry to hear of her death, which
occurred at the home of her daughter, at Denison, Iowa, Friday evening,
after an illness with pneumonia. MRS. DAVIS left Chariton in October to
spend the winter with her children, going to Wyoming, and later to Denison.
The remains were brought to this city, arriving Monday evening, and funeral
services were held at the Methodist Church Tuesday, at 2 o'clock, conducted
by the Pastor, Rev. N. Evans. She was a woman of strong character, and her
pleasant manner and many deeds of kindness made for her a host of friends.

ELLEN WAYNICK was born near Greencastle, Ind., July 1, 1833, and died at the
home of her daughter, MRS. LEY, at Denison, Iowa, March 1, 1907. She came
to Iowa with her parents in 1850, locating at Albia. She was united in
marriage to W.P. DAVIS, in Chariton, in 1852, where she had continued to
reside. She was the mother of eight children, five of whom are living and
were present on this sad occasion. They are MRS. LOTTIE LEY and MRS. OLA
KEMMING, of Denison; ELMER, of Valley City, N.D.; LEE, of Green River,
Wyoming, and FRANK, of Ottumwa.

She was one of the eight members who organized the Methodist Church in this
city, in 1851, and is the last one to answer the final summons. She was an
honored member of the Women's Relief Corps, who attended the services in a
body. She was a true Christian and died in the faith of a living God.
Beside her children she leaves two sisters, MRS. JANE FRANCES, of Arlington,
Neb., and MRS. B.F. MURPHY, of this city, and two brothers, DR. WYATT
WAYNICK, of Oklahoma City, and REV. M.C. WAYNICK, of Salt Lake City. She
was tenderly laid to rest in the Waynick Cemetery, beside her husband, who
preceded her to the beyond.
